On Your Quest for Success, Keep Family First – Wealth Builders

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

In the pursuit of happiness and success, it is imperative that you never forget one thing: Don’t forget the people who you are doing this for: your kids, spouse, and anyone else that you care about and wish to be there for.

In Corporate America much praise and respect is given to those who have successfully “climbed the corporate ladder” to the top positions in their company. However, many of those who have achieved this level of “success” (I don’t considered it that) have sacrificed their relationships with their family in order to get there.

Entrepreneurs are often no different. Many of us who have built an impressive enterprise have done so at the expense of our relationships with our loved ones. Don’t get so absorbed in your pursuit that you end up losing the very people who enrich your life and make it mean something…your family.

One of the paradoxes to great success is that sometimes the building of the kingdom can become such a consuming task that we push away and alienate the very people who we were doing it for in the first place.

I can remember getting some great advice from a good friend and mentor regarding some of the “guru’s” that I was always in awe of. He told me “make sure that you keep some balance in your business. Also realize that many of the people who are teaching you how to become successful are going through divorces themselves. They have neglected the people at home in order to chase their dreams.”

I have never forgotten that advice. And I also make sure that I take time out to infuse some balance into my daily business grind so that it does not overtake my life and place any of the relationships that mean more than life to me in jeopardy.

If you’ve got somebody at home, drop everything NOW and go tell them you love them.

Home Based Business; What You Don’t Want

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Many people in their quest to create a successful Home Based Business fall into the trap of being led to believe that they need to buy software programs after software programs to make their Home Business work. They are not told or do not realize that their Work From Home Business can be successful using totally free software found on the internet.
It is easy to see how people fall into this trap. And that is exactly what it is, a trap. Most systems make their money on the software, programs or systems that they sell you. With most systems it costs you a sum money up front to get involved. When you first start they have your email address. What we found too with most of these systems is they don’t give you all the information you need right up front to succeed. They keep sending you emails with this new and wonderful product or program that Joe Shmoe made five hundred thousand a month with in hopes of enticing you to buy it, and thus they get a commission for selling it to you!
What is usually taking place here is that they believe that if they can sell you one product they can sell you another product. Most people are so heavily invested in their Home Based Business that they feel they have to buy the “next new thing” to make their Online Business work. What they are really doing is keeping you from being successful so they can make their living off of you buy selling you a new product that you hope will make your Home Business finally work.
My wife and I went through this squirrel cage for a few years before we realized what was really going on. Believe me it was really tempting to give up but We so wanted this Work From Home Business thing to work that we just kept at it. We finally came to the point where we quit buying the “next best thing” and started to piece together what we had learned from this experience. We put together all of the free programs we had accumulated and with a lot of research we finally figured out how put together a system that really works using all free software that you can find on the internet.
Believe me it is really exciting and liberating to know that you really don’t have to buy anything except a domain name and a hosting site to build a successful Home Based
Business. For more tips and advice on how you too can learn to build your Online Business go to http://EZIncomeNow.com and get started today.

Does your New Year’s resolution include buying or selling your business?

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Everyone is familiar with the Christmas song, the 12 days of Christmas. Without going into every verse of the song, the carol works forwards with the first day of Christmas being a partridge in a pear tree, the second day of Christmas two turtle doves and so on. The song is full of optimism and hope that the giver and receivers of the gifts will be thankful for life, the opportunity to share and hope for the future.

From researching the origins of the song, I came across something interesting. One of the articles I read suggested that the 12 days of Christmas is not about the 12 days prior to Christmas but in fact, the 12 days from Christmas until the beginning of Epiphany which begins on January 06. When I thought further about this, it naturally combined with another favorite thing we do during the Holiday Season and that is to make New Year’s Resolutions.

New Year’s Resolutions are a powerful opportunity as they allow us to do three separate things. First, look back at our experiences of the last year and decide if it’s been a good year or not and what we could have done differently. Because it puts us in the mood, we also tend to go back and look at more than just the last year but initially the last couple of years and decide where or not it’s been good. Once we start doing that, we obviously look back at our life and decide what we like and what we wish we could do differently.

Our next reflection tends to move to the present where we look at our life and what we now have. We reflect on our family and friends and how important they are to us. We also look at whatever means we use to sustain ourselves and put a roof over our heads, the food on the table, the clothes we wear and the myriad of other things that allow us to live our life.

This then brings us to the final reflection and probably the most exciting and powerful opportunity of all, and that is to look ahead and decide what changes we’d like to make to build and enhance our life and our immediate loved ones. This reflection, for obvious reasons, takes us to both our job and what we are currently doing or, if we own a business, how that business is performing. Regardless of whether we have or don’t have a job or own a business, it’s the time to ask some questions. These questions include whether or not what I am doing is worthwhile and fulfilling, whether it produces the income I need to live the life that I want, what changes I want to make to achieve the personal, financial and emotional goals I’ve set for myself plus more.

For me personally, as I was sitting down to write this and some additional articles for the New Year that I started my own personal introspection. I’m a great believer in looking back and seeing what I’ve done, how I can do things better, did I get close to the goals I set for myself, what’s the next personal and professional development I need to embrace. All this is in the context that I have a great wife and two kids who probably don’t hear that enough, but that’s another story.

So the point of this article is a couple of things. As you embrace the Holiday Season, enjoy it as it is a special time and I wish you nothing but peace and goodwill to all people. If your time allows, sit down and meaningfully decide on your New Year’s resolutions. If your New Year’s resolutions are likely to include either buying or selling a business you may want to consider a thoughtful and logical approach. If you’ve wondered if such a thing exists, I’ve put it together and it’s called “The 12 plans of an Entrepreneur.” For good reason I am unable to convert it to a song and for a better reason I am unable to sing it to you, but whether we are buying or selling a business, the process requires careful and thorough planning. From my own experience of owning and operating five businesses and using the start of the New Year to review where I am at and where I am going, the process includes looking and understanding these 12 areas of a business.

These twelve areas are as follows. Creating, reviewing and sharing your Life Plan, Financial Plan, Business Plan, Sales and Marketing Plan, Communication Plan, Management Plan, Performance Plan, Productivity Plan, Technology Plan, Performance Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan, Exit Plan and Transition Plan.

To explain each area in a little more detail, this is the first of thirteen articles on “The 12 plans of an Entrepreneur.”

My hope for the Holiday season is that you are Happy and Prosperous.

Part 2 of this article series looks at the importance of a Life Plan to an entrepreneur and cover some tips that will help you decide where you are on your entrepreneurial journey.

How to be a successful entrepreneur – making sure your business succeeds.

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

How to make sure your business succeeds – is there really a magic formula, an action plan you can create a speadsheet from, a Powerpoint presentation you can follow?

Almost certainly not.

Businesses come in a huge variety of types and they succeed – or fail – for a wide variety of reasons. Yet, among the massive array of advice to be found on this – the BIG – question, there do seem to be a number of rules or guidelines that form a common thread.

Here we’ve tried to condense these down to offer some pointers. So, whether you run an office-based business, or a manufacturing business, hopefully these suggestions will help to drive your business towards success.

1. Make sure you know what you’re doing. This means it’s always best to have some experience within your chosen business sector before deciding to set up your own venture. It’s a good idea to work for someone else in the same kind of business and learn from them – especially from their mistakes.

2. Before you even start, do your homework. Planning and research can only take your business a certain distance along the road to success, but it’s vital that it’s done even so. Know what and who the competition is. Be realistic about how well you can compete, or assess how you can change your offering to complement other businesses, or fill a niche they aren’t covering. But don’t over plan to the point that everything must proceed along the route you’ve drawn up – because it wont and you must be ready to adapt and be creative.

3. Be ready to make mistakes and learn from them. Behind every business success story, there are many mistakes. The key is to make sure they aren’t catastrophic and that you learn from them. Mistakes can make your business a great deal stronger.

4. Be ruthlessly determined. This doesn’t mean that you have to be ruthless in your business dealings. What it means instead is that you must be ruthless in dealing with any self-doubts when they pop up. Listen to others’ warnings; but, once you’ve set your goals and produced your detailed plan, then go for it unswervingly.

5. Do lots of networking. This is vital, whatever business you run, to network this is how you will discover opportunities to interact with other businesses and find new potential streams of income and or help. Joining chambers of commerce and trade organisations, should be complemented these days by on-line social networking, where there are huge opportunities for sharing information and getting and offering advice. Make a list of contacts and keep it alive and updated.

6. If you’re a small or medium-sized business, and especially a manufacturing business, generally it’s best to avoid producing a product that relies on low pricing to bring you profit. Bigger manufacturers will almost always be able to undercut you. Rely on filling a niche or best quality instead. And, again, if you’re manufacturing a product, think about out-sourcing to lower production costs, but skimping on quality will probably be a false economy in the long run.

7. Learn from success. It isn’t only mistakes that provide lessons. If something is a success – and this can be either a manufactured product or a good office practice – analyse it, work out why it worked well and repeat the formula. And don’t forget to celebrate any success, even small ones. This is good for morale – yours included – and reminds you why you are in business at all.

8. If you employ others, then be positive and create a can-do environment in which innovation, ideas and enthusiasm are celebrated. Give lots of praise when it’s due. Being passionate about what you’re doing is one great way to create an infectiously positive atmosphere.

9. Decide what things you’re best at and focus on these. Don’t waste time trying to improve or develop skills you don’t have – as an entrepreneur, there’s no time and you can’t afford the luxury. Do what you do best and then do it even better. Get someone else to do what you’re not so good at. For example, if you run an office-based business and accounts are not your thing, don’t waste time trying to grapple with the numbers. Get someone else to keep an eye on accounting and budgets and you focus on selling the service you offer, if that is your area of strength.

10. Work ultra hard. Obvious, maybe. But there is no substitute. No business success book that can be read, no entrepreneur superstar who can impart THE big secret of success, there is really nothing that can replace good old- fashioned hard work. Having a vision that you keep alive, along with the self-discipline to work extremely hard, are probably the two most important ingredients for the success of any business.

The Idea Of Work

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

I think that work often means different things to different people and while some people hate their “work” others enjoy it and love it more than their free time.

But what is work? Work, by it’s most basic definition, is the process of creation. It’s the process of creating something out of nothing.

Any kind of work can be traced down to some kind of creation.

However in some professions, the process of creation is not very apparent to the worker and so they do not realize what their value is.

For example, if you are working at McDonnalds then you are on of the millions of people who together “create” the McDonnalds experience for the visitors of the restaurant. You are a creator in that case as well, but your work may be very tedious and you may not feel very much in control of what you are creating. All because the asset that you are creating is not your own.

This is what brings us to the really fun kind of work – the work of creating valuable assets. For example, from the example above, the person who created McDonnalds probably had a lot of fun doing it because he was building an asset which was named McDonnalds.

An asset is basically a money system which you work to create and which continues to bring in rewards for you. So the work in this case is much more rewarding and can even be fun to do.

What other examples do we have of the fun work? Musicians create long term assets by recording their music. Writers create assets by writing books that are then sold to millions. Online entrepreneurs create valuable websites like facebook and twitter.

But it all comes down to creation and if you are really smart about the work that you are doing then you will focus on creating assets which you can then build upon and increase in value over time.

About the Author

There are many books and courses that you can buy online that will teach you exactly how to create valuable assets.

But don’t wait for a book to teach you what to do. Start creating something right now and then use books to guide your way through the process.

Business is Booming for Baby Boomers

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

If you were born between the years 1946 and 1964 then you are classified as a baby boomer, although you are closer to death than infancy. This is the biggest generation of entrepreneurs at the moment. This generation has guts, drive, motivation, determination and persistence. They are frantically working towards a dream retirement and nothing is going to stop them.

At the moment baby boomers make up about 27% of the population, and about 70% of baby boomers own their homes. This just goes to show that this must be one of the hardest working generations of our time.

There has never been a better time in history than now to invest in your own online business. Never before in history has it been so easy to be in contact with millions world wide thanks to the wonderful technology that we have today. More and more entrepreneurs are emerging and making a success story of their lives by gaining the financial freedom that they once only dreamed about. Baby boomers are thriving in such a community, as they have the right mindset to prosper.

No more calling all your friends and relatives to sell them products, just plug into the vast array of features that the World Wide Web offers us to promote our businesses. If you join up with the right online company, full training is at your finger tips and success is just around the corner for those that are willing to learn and put in the required effort.

It is not just financial freedom that baby boomers want, it’s time. More of it to be able to enjoy our lives, relax with our families, travel the world and work where ever and when ever. Nine to five jobs are not desired anymore. It’s the freedom to choose where and when you want to work. Working yourself to a stand still to make somebody else rich is just not making sense anymore, doing it for you is what it’s all about and thousands of baby boomers have realized this.

They wake up when they like in the morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast with their family, walk down the passage to their office, work for a couple of hours, and then head off to the beach or golf club for the afternoon.

Today this is becoming the norm with more and more people who have made it happen for them selves. With some good planning, the right mindset, a good degree of discipline and motivation, a willingness to keep learning and of course a lucrative and successful internet marketing company to back you up and train you is all you need to start generating your own income and working towards a financially secure future.

Top 10 Tools for Today’s Entrepreneurs

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Sometime ago youngentrepreneurs organized a poll to find out the top tools for entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs send in what they consider were the top tool for them as entrepreneurs and finally the site pick eight tools to be the top tools for entrepreneurs.
The youngentrepreneurs list was quite insight for me and here I am going to list those tools and add two tools I think should also be on that list.

Tool #1. Books / Magazines. This top’s youngentrepreneur list and I think that should be expected. Here are a few Reading material: BRW (Business Review Weekly) magazine, How to Win Friends and Influence People (Dale Carnegie), A New Earth (Earkhart Tolle), Loosing my Virginity (Richard Branson). I also recommend reading some classic books such as Competitive Strategy – By Michael Porter, Blue Ocean Strategy – by Chan Kim, Gentleman, A Timeless Fashion – by Roetzel, Market Based Management – by Roger Best

Tool#2. Websites. Interactive Business Planner is great. IBP: New User Registration It’s a really good business plan wizard. Each section is broken down into bite-size pieces, has clear explanations and an example excerpt from a business plan. It’s provided by the Government of Canada but I don’t think there is any reason it wouldn’t be useful to anyone else. SMEtoolkit is another great site for entrepreneurs.
Here are some tools I find to useful as an entrepreneur and think you will find them useful:
- Management Methods | Management Models | Management Theories – I find it useful as a quick reference/refresher tool.
- Docstoc.com. Free legal forms and business templates – It’s a great repository to quickly find free templates for business documents (e.g. b-plans, legal templates, etc.).
- Online Project Management, Group Collaboration and Document Sharing ~ Huddle – Have found it useful for collaborating on projects.
- Scan, copy and fax with your camera phone or digital camera – Sort of an odd tool, but can be useful for digitizing information you put on a whiteboard.
Most people have also find great ideas for their business from my blog: http://www.askentrepreneurs.blogspot.com

Tool #3. Pen and Paper. This is simply a can’t do without tool for every entrepreneur. Remember the saying,” The pen is mightier than the sword.”

Tool #4. Business Cards. Customized Multimedia Business Card and Way To Wealth Marketing System are great tools for entrepreneurs.

Tool #5. Network / Peers. Networking with other entrepreneurs and sharing ideas with them is a must for today’s entrepreneurs.

Tool #6. Mentors. Having a mentor can make a huge difference to your results. Ideally make it someone you can meet with in person on a regular basis which helps keep you under pressure to achieve.

Tool #7. RSS Readers. Google Reader for quickly skimming through industry news and events.

Tool #8. Blogs. This is fast becoming a necessary tool for entrepreneurs. Check out my blog on quotes: http://www.whynotaskmillionaires.blogspot.com
OK, that’s the top eight tools from the youngentrepreneurs site. Here are the other tools that have been great for me.

Tool #9. Google. This my personal top tool.

Tool #10. Media. I don’t know how any entrepreneur can do without this.

So, there you have it, my top 10 tools for entrepreneurs.

Why the Beauty Industry Hates Men (Part IIIA)

Monday, July 25th, 2011

The “Secret Life” of Male Skin Care Shoppers Exposed – Part 1 of a Special 2 Part Exposé

A fundamental strength of any successful business is its ability to answer a clear, confident and consistent YES to the following question at all times: Are you easy to do business with?

At first glance (and each subsequent one, too), the question seems either redundant, or absurd. “Of course,” most business leaders would automatically reply to that strange inquiry, “we’re incredibly easy to do business with. How can you ask such a silly question?”

Well, the reason we can ask such a ‘silly question’ is because a staggering number of businesses in the Beauty Industry aren’t easy to do business with. Not if you’re among the millions of men who are in search of Masculine Face Care™ (or what the effeminate beauty industry refers to as men’s skin care) and a buying experience that is aligned with a man’s basic, masculine nature.

For millions of masculine men across the US and the rest of the word – ‘doing business’ with the Beauty Industry is anything but easy. In fact, the spectrum ranges from humiliating to hellish.

Go Directly to Female-Centric Department Store Beauty Counters: Do Not Pass GO

Just as unlucky Monopoly® players are told to “Go directly to Jail, do not pass GO,” millions of men stuck playing the Beauty Industry’s strange game are given the same ruthless ultimatum: “If you want to take care of your face, minimize or prevent the visible signs of aging, or just keep your skin healthy, clean and safe from the environment, and you want high quality products to do it – then go directly to department store beauty counters designed exclusively for the shopping pleasure of members of the ‘opposite gender’.

And while most men would refuse to subject themselves to a buying experience that is totally against their nature and preference, there are some who secretly obey this order, because they have no other choice. They need to take care of their appearance, not out of vanity, but to gain an extra edge in an ultra-competitive environment – where first impressions based on how he looks could make or break the deal of a lifetime, or hinder his chances of advancing romantically with she who is the one, before she equates a less than perfect first impression with having no chemistry…

These men understand the need to keep the visible signs of aging at bay, to protect their skin from the daily shave, heat, cold, sun, and other environmental hazards, but they want to do it right and so they are selective about what they put on their face. After all – while that first impression may take mere seconds, it could be months, or years before he gets a second chance (if at all), to overcome the initial rejection. Conventional wisdom says that the opportunities that are truly once-in-a-lifetime, that shape the trajectory of our life path rarely come around twice.

Masculine men who want to gain every advantage deserve to have equal access (as their female counterparts) to the latest and best innovations in Masculine Face Care™ and anti-aging technologies. Having no other options, secretly and shamefully, men slink into department store beauty sections and awkwardly purchase men’s skin care and men’s anti-aging products as quickly as possible – and then leave just as quickly, before they’re spotted by the wife of an acquaintance, or worse, before they’re caught in the tractor beam of ever hovering beauty consultants.

Another example of the blatant disregard for the preference of masculine consumers is the beauty industry’s Free Gift with Purchase incentives that are promoted year-round at department and specialty beauty stores. Let’s not even pretend that the beauty industry invested much effort into incentives that are tailored to men. In fact, except for a few major holidays where some brands might offer men a tee shirt, duffle, or something equally unimaginative, the rest of the year, men who buy the same skin care brands as his female counterpart can either choose the oh-so-pretty make-up bag packed with lipsticks, eye shadows and mascara, or nothing at all.

How is this possible? The answer is simple. The Beauty Industry is well aware that their retail environment is uninviting to masculine men. Men aren’t their bread-n-butter and they don’t have to cater to you, even if you are the intended end-user of their men’s skin care products. Statistically, 70% of all men’s skin care products are purchased by women, so the objective of these incentives are to entice women to buy for you, rather than to build a relationship with you – directly. Think of these female-centric incentives as the Beauty Industry’s way of bribing (or recruiting) the women around you to spend mega bucks on men’s skin care products that they want her to convince (or nag) you into accepting.

Frankly, there are a lot of choice phrases to describe what the Beauty Industry puts masculine men through – ‘easy buying experience’ isn’t one of them.

The Drugstore Experience – Where the Entire Men’s Skin Care Section Fits into a Shoe Box.

Of course, some might argue: Well, what about drugstores? Men can go there and easily get the men’s skin care products they need.

No, they can’t. Drugstores are no more ‘men friendly’ than department stores, but for very different reasons. You see, the Beauty Industry is all about ‘image’ and there is a very definite ‘hierarchy’ between department store and drugstore brands. Department store brands are considered ‘high-end’ (or prestige) products – usually with price tags that match, but not necessarily the substance that gives them merit.

Skin care and anti-aging products sold at drug and mass merchandise stores are typically known in the beauty industry as ‘low-end’ products. While some brands lure the budget shopper with the perception of ‘value’, others are in line with the old adage – ‘sometimes you get what you pay for’. Brands aside, the undeniable reality is that while there are aisles and seemingly endless rows (or shelves) of female centric beauty products in a typical store, the entire men’s skin care section (if one exists at all) could usually fit in a shoe box. Unless of course, you don’t mind using women’s beauty creams, shopping in the women’s beauty section, nor paying good money for skin care products where the needs of masculine users played no part in their inception.

The On-Line Shopping Experience – and the Erosion of the Golden Rule of Retail Marketing: Put the Product in the Customer’s Hands.

There are also those in the Beauty Industry who believe that on-line shopping is the answer to the Beauty Industry’s Billion Dollar ‘Man Problem’. If masculine men have a problem with department store beauty sections and offers to powder their nose at the beauty counters (where there’s never any obligation to buy – just pressure), then they need not come out at all!

Beauty industry advocates believe that men can simply shop for men’s skin care and men’s anti-aging products in the comfort of his home. There’s plenty of privacy (even more so if the package is delivered in a plain brown package), plenty of selection – try an on-line search for men’s skin care and be delighted with literally millions of web results and thousands of brands to sort through – some more prominent than others, and many of which have their own set of hyperbolic claims – something to the effect x number of users noticed x % of improvement in x number of days or weeks, plus the fine print, usually some blurb about a control group and how results may vary.

And then there are the volumes of contradictory reviews – User A loves it, User B hates it, User C can careless and so on. By the way, have you noticed how many of these men’s skin care product reviews are written by the women who bought them for their men? Where are the actual users – the men behind some of these reviews? Oh I forget, they’d probably rather people not know about the beauty regiment their women put them on.

Regardless of the quality and claims of some of the men’s skin care products available on-line and the credibility of the manufacturers, deciding on the right Masculine Face Care™ product is a personal decision. Like kicking the tires before buying a truck, the masculine buyer has every right to inspect the product in his hands, decide for himself whether the brand message resonates with his sense of masculinity and would enhance his competitive edge before he invests in the product.

On-line shopping is time consuming, confusing and fraught with unsubstantiated claims and unknown suppliers.

Business Ideas for Enterprising Women

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

So you want to start a business of your own knowing well that it is a man’s world out there and you have to do something out of the box and do it well in order to survive the rat race?
