"Competition v. Customers"

Some business owners see business as a highly competitive activity. They want to “kill the competition,” “win the contract” and “capture market share.” Others seemingly ignore the competition and focus on solidifying their relationships with the customers.

These are two interesting, but dramatically different points of view. Both attempt to reach the same result, a strong healthy business. It could be questioned whether one approach is more successful than the other? Actually, it would be easy to argue in favor of both points of view. The reality is, whether you opt for working to build a solid business relationship with your customers or go to war with your competitors, it probably makes little difference

A high percentage of business owners display a tendency to be strongly competitive. They see each competitor as a challenge to overcome. They will devote a significant amount of effort in doing S.W.O.T. analysis on their competition in order to figure out the best strategies and action plans to gain the upper hand and a larger market share.

Beyond question, this can sharpen your business skills and fine tune the methods you will need to deliver your products or services in the best possible way. Each new customer is seen as a victory over the competition and reason for tremendous celebration within the organization.

The style of building your business by focusing on customer relationships does not necessarily infer a lack of competitive spirit. The amount of planning and time and effort can be as much or even more as going after the competition. As mentioned earlier, it is just another way of reaching the same result. Each new customer is seen as a reason for tremendous celebration within the organization.

Even if the time spent on the two concepts is similar, many business owners that adopt the relationship method feel all the time, money and energy spent on S.W.O.T. analysis and devising those strategies and action plans to counteract the competition, is a waste. They can argue, with some success, that even if you beat out the competitor, you still have to establish and maintain a good relationship with the customer. Otherwise, the competition may come in and take the customer away.

Most business strategies focus on skills like good time management or becoming an effective communicator. According to Tony Robbins, achieving your dreams depends more on your attitudes and emotional resilience than on the skills your acquire.
Mastering the following five emotional hurdles will prove to be one of the best business strategies you can learn. These are issues that most people avoid and therefore remain stuck, but by learning to manage your responses as explained here, you will be on your way to achieving success, wealth and happiness.

Strategy #1. Learn how to handle frustration. Frustration is one of the greatest silent killers of dreams. Frustration is what stops people and turns a positive attitude into a negative one. And a negative attitude wipes out self-discipline. It wipes out the energy to even try, and then it’s all over before you’ve begun. Without enthusiasm and energy, how can you accomplish anything?

Solution? Seek massive frustration so you will have the opportunity to learn to manage it. Buried on the other side of frustration is success. You can master it by learning to turn frustration into fascination. You can use a series of actions to change how you see frustrating situations. In your mind you can reframe it, or breathe and change your physical state. When you stay frustrated with something or someone it’s YOUR day that gets ruined. Seeing a situation differently sets you free from negative emotion. So when you feel frustration coming-on stop, recognize it, and do something to change it.

Strategy #2. Learn how to handle rejections. Rejection is the second biggest killer of dreams. Overcoming objections and rejections is the only way to get closer to your goal. The more rejections you get, the closer you get to your dream. If you learn to thrive on it, you will get stronger because of it. You will welcome it. If you can handle frustration and rejection there is very little that can stop you at what you choose to do.

Sylvester Stallone and Tina Turner both endured massive rejection and frustration but they refused to give up. It made them stronger. For years they faced rejections, but they never gave up on their dreams. Because of the law of averages, if you keep at it, you will eventually accumulate enough “no’s” to get a “yes.” Learning how to handle rejection will show you opportunity, but only if you never give into the feeling of being unworthy.

Strategy #3. Learn how to handle financial pressure. Money plays a major role in western culture. It amplifies your ability to do more things because you can pay others to do things for you. We think life will be easier when we make more money, but money doesn’t simplify your life. If you learn to handle small amounts you can learn to handle larger amounts. This is a Biblical truth. Having more money only amplifies who you already are.

Money will do weird things if you don’t know how to handle it. It won’t make you free. Knowing how to handle money requires that you learn how to grow your own worth and make your value to people the source of your wealth. Like the story of “The Richest Man in Babylon,” by George S. Clason, which describes the principles that enable you to run your money, instead of your money running you. These principles are:

Take 10% and give it away.
Take 10% and use it to reduce your debt.
Take 10% and use it to invest for the future.
Take 70% and use it to live on.

Even when you don’t have it, giving money away makes your subconscious think, “There is more than enough.” And that will be manifested. Establish the pattern now, and let your worth be what you are capable of giving. If you think you don’t have enough money to do this, then you don’t have enough money not to!!

Strategy #4. Learn how to manage complacency — the comfort zone. It makes us feel satisfied, but not for long. We will only be satisfied by what we become, not by what we have. We tend to judge ourselves by our peers, but it’s best to learn to judge yourself by your goals, not by your peers.

Your goals are based on your values not on your peers. Who you associate with will impact your values and that can produce a negative effect. Be careful that those you consider your friends don’t “poison” your thinking with wrong attitudes. Conversely, you can always be in a position to grow by surrounding yourself with accomplished people.

Strategy #5. Always give much more than you expect to receive. Always provide something you can give that makes it feel like a privilege to be a part of what you do — where you love what you do so much that it’s not a task. Share the joy that you have in achieving your dreams and help others to change their lives. Then you get to become truly wealthy.

Mentoring program – Finding time to change your future

If you can afford to spend one hour per day on a mentoring program without making excuses that some days you just don’t have the time, then you will be off to a great start and there is no reason that the mentoring program can’t start you off to a very successful internet marketing career.

The problem with many people who get involved with a mentoring program is that they just don’t stick with it and soon start to come up with reasons why they cannot do the work that is requested of them in order to progress through the mentoring program.

It is easy to say to yourself when you are tired or when your favourite television program is about to start that you will put off your hour of work but please believe me when I tell you that this is the slippery slope and when you have doe this once you will find it easier and easier to say it to yourself again and again and before you know it you will be putting in only one hour per week, max.

How to Choose the Best Work From Home Business

The 3 D’s Of Entrepreneurial Success

We dream about what we would like to accomplish and achieve, but we never get beyond our dreams. We never bring them into reality. Most of us never move from curious to serious we just stay curious our whole life and let success pass us by.

To move into that prosperous 5% of the people who are building their dreams, you must get serious and claim your success. In other words, you must make a commitment to claim success.

Another way of looking at this is what I call the three D’s: Desire, Deserve and Decide.

To claim your success as an entrepreneur, you have to desire to be in the business you have to feel you deserve success and you have to decide to enter the business and make it work. The crucial one here is Decide. When you really decide to get into business, you are making a commitment to it and to your success. It takes a conscious effort to be 3-D. Even now, I still have to focus on being 3-D. Here is a prime example.

Once, after a long day of business out of town, I finally checked into my hotel. When I got to my suite, it was the first chance I had all day to finally sit down and relax. As I sat and reflected on the day, I took a good look at my suite. It was extremely luxurious with all the amenities for which one could hope. I considered the cost and, after pondering a moment, asked myself, “Do I really deserve all of this?” The answer is, “Yes, I do most definitely deserve this and more!”

To make a commitment to becoming an entrepreneur or anything else in your life, you must ask yourself the following questions.

* Do you really desire success, or is it just something that sounds good?

* Do you feel you deserve success, or is that something for other people not for you?

* Have you really decided to be successful, or are you going to quit at the first rough patch in the road?

Because you are reading this article you most likely have the desire for success. If you have desire, then you probably feel you deserve to lead a good life. If you desire and deserve, then the only step left is to decide, which is the same thing as making a commitment.

If you find that you are having trouble committing to becoming an entrepreneur or to anything else in your life then take another look at your challenge. It may be that your original challenge is not really your true passion, or maybe you need to rethink your definition of success and change your challenge.

As the circumstances in your life change, your challenge will sometimes need to be changed. Just remember that when you are having a difficult time committing to something, it is usually because you are not passionate about your challenge.

Without a doubt, your passion will be the barometer for success because without it, your business will just be something to do something at which you can make money.

Unless you are passionate about your business you will not be fulfilled, nor will you be happy being in or even part of your business.

Passion is the fuel for commitment, and commitment is the springboard of success. Without passion you will never have commitment true commitment, that is and without commitment, it is very unlikely that you will ever reach true success. Without passion, working in your business would be no better than working at a job for someone else.

Jewelry Trends Through the Ages

Through the ages, jewelry has defined our relationships to each other and to our world. Trends have see-sawed back and forth from gold to silver, from flashy to discrete, from diamonds to colored gems. But the use of jewels as an adornment and an expression of love, wealth and esteem has remained constant.

For centuries precious metals and gems were the purview of the high and mighty. In ancient Egypt, magnificent hammered gold head ornaments, collars, armlets, necklaces, rings and earrings have been unearthed in the tombs of pharaohs dating to 3000 BCE. More than a thousand years later in 1400 BCE the ancient Greeks started adding emeralds, garnets, amethysts and pearls to far more delicately crafted gold necklaces and earrings. The Greeks may have been the first to simulate gems, using colored stones, glass and enamel to decorate their jewelry.

In 8 BCE Italy’s Etruscans first produced the granulated, textured gold work for which they are still known today. As the epoch turned, Roman conquests introduced new gems to jewelers: sapphires from Sri Lanka, cloudy emeralds, garnets and diamond crystals from India.
In the 13th century, Medieval Europe’s Sumptuary Laws prohibited citizens from wearing gold, silver or jewels, reserving such sumptuous dress and ornamentation for the nobility and royals. Artisans responded by creating quality imitation jewelry with glass gems that mimicked real jewels. By the 17th century, paste jewels had become quite popular. A glass compound of white lead oxide and potash, paste jewelry represented the first widespread use of artificial created gems. Noble women popularly used coordinated paste jewelry pieces called dress ornaments to adorn their clothing. As many as 30 or 40 small jeweled bows might be used to decorate the bodice and sleeves of a dress.

The industrial revolution in the mid-1700s allowed the use of steel in jewelry making, allowing jewelers to create cheap steel ornaments set with paste stones at a price affordable by the common man. As use of common metals and glass gems made jewelry affordable, its use in everyday dress became popular.

Nine Networking Tips to Speed Sales and Referrals

Networking is an essential part of building your business. Whether you network locally, nationally, or internationally, there are some tips that are common to all businesses.

  1. Be crystal clear about what you do and how people can use you. Also know exactly who your ideal client is in case you’re asked. If you don’t do this, you’ll leave people scratching their heads about you and they won’t know how to connect with you even if they wanted to.
  2. Follow up like crazy. Write on the back of the business card what you talked about and email the new contact the next day. Offer a free, short session over the phone to see how you might help each other. (I don’t’ recommend meeting for coffee; it’s too time-consuming.) I followed up several times with a prospect who couldn’t afford me and who then turned around and referred a friend to me. I would have never gotten that referral without following up several times.
  3. Be in a giving frame of mind. Ask the people you meet how you can help them. You might be able to make an introduction, share a tip, or give a referral. Always ask people who their ideal client is and keep a note in your database.
  4. Be open-minded. Don’t just look for prospects who could become clients. Look for potential partners, vendors, and friends. I will likely end up doing a terrific project with a “competitor” because we were open-minded and saw how we complemented each other with different specialties within the same field of business.
  5. Bring an agenda to a national or international networking opportunity such as a conference. Know who will be there and invite them weeks in advance (so they can adjust airfare and hotel if necessary) to a one-on-one meeting to discuss possible partnerships.
  6. Face-to-face trumps all other marketing methods. When possible, be visible. Go to meetings, accept speaking engagements, volunteer, and display your products at an exhibitor table when they are available.
  7. Keep going to the same group over and over again rather than flitting from group to group once. It takes three to six months before people get to know you well enough to refer you. Choose a giving community that best matches your ideal client, and if for some reason you haven’t gotten business after nine months, cut your losses and find another group.
  8. Use tools such as an ezine, FaceBook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to stay in touch and keep you visible once you’ve met in person. Friend, follow, and connect with each entrepreneur you’ve met at your networking meetings.
  9. Offer something free that is compelling so people can get a low-risk taste of your product or service. A free newsletter that helps people make money, a free workshop or teleseminar, or a free no-strings one-on-one phone session are three options that work great to help people get to know you better, which will increase referrals.
